Frisch, a favorite dining spot for vegans, vegetarians and others, has moved into a larger space at 145 E. 1300 South, Salt Lake City.

Owners Rachel and Leigh Kade have kept the menu — and the yellow and blue color scheme — the same, with favorites including the technicolor tempeh kale salad, chicken wraps and nachos still available for under $10. The Taco Tuesday special lives on, as well.

There are new offerings, too, such as the glass display case filled with sweet treats, including the popular Twinkie-like Dillos, from Cakewalk Bakery Co.

The two vegan eateries began operating under one roof last fall. In December, they were unable to renew their lease on 500 East and began looking for a new home.

"We didn't want to move," said Rachel Kade, "but it's the best thing we ever did."

Besides having more parking space, Frisch now is open early. Coffee and espresso are available beginning at 6 a.m., with breakfast served beginning at 7 a.m. The morning menu includes breakfast burritos — think pepper, potato and soy sausage tofu scramble — as well as Cakewalk cinnamon rolls and pastries.

Frisch adds a new dimension to the strip mall on the corner of 1300 South and State Street, which already was home to an international mix of restaurants, including Korean House, Shanghai Cafe, House of Tibet and Mariscos Mi Lindo Nayarit, a Mexican seafood restaurant. —
