Drink and drive this St. Patrick's Day weekend and you may find yourself not only wearin' the green, but a pair of Utah Highway Patrol handcuffs.

UHP spokesman Dwayne Baird says troopers will be out in force in the days leading up to Monday's Irish holiday. In all, 75 additional extra shifts have been allocated to crack down on drunk drivers by UHP alone.

The Utah Highway Safety Office also is underwriting some 300 overtime shifts for other law enforcement agencies to keep roadways safe from over-imbibing revelers.

"The UHP wants everyone to reach their destinations safely but drivers must do their part and not drive under the influence. Troopers will be out in full force during a statewide DUI blitz," Baird stated.
