Former Ute earns milestone coaching victory
Congratulations are in order for former Utah softball player Jo Evans, now Texas A&M's coach, who earned her 1,000 coaching victory Saturday.
Evans earned High Country All-Conference Honors in 1982 for the Utes and was named an ASA All-American.
She began her head coaching career at Colorado State in 1986 then returned to the coach the Utes in 1991. Under her care, the Utes reached the College World Series in her second year and earned back-to-back WAC titles.
The 1994 team stands out for its success sa the Utes returned to the World Series and finished fifth. Along the way the Utes set a school record for most wins (51), highest national ranking (7th) and best winning percentage (.797).
She was hired by Texas A&M in 1996 and led the Aggies to the 2005 and 2008 Big 12 titles as well as 14 NCAA regional showings.
