A Taylorsville man is accused of stabbing his son with a butcher knife.

In charges filed Monday, police wrote that the man, 43, stabbed his son in the back, causing his chest cavity to fill with blood Feb. 25 at the family’s Taylorsville home. Two children were in the room at the time, police wrote.

The victim’s sister said she heard a noise from the victim’s room and walked in to see the father on top of the victim, police wrote. The victim said, “He stabbed me,” police wrote.

The sister hit the father with her hands and with an infant car seat to get the father off the victim, but he did not release the victim until police arrived, officers wrote. The victim was critically injured; a tube was inserted in his chest to drain the blood and relieve the pressure.

The father was charged with second-degree felony aggravated assault, two third-degree felony counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, misdemeanor possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person and misdemeanor unlawful detention.
