Salt Lake City police were looking for a half-dozen suspects who allegedly unleashed a barrage of bullets on a home near the 1300 South TRAX light rail station early Friday morning.
Police say a 911 call came in at 12:47 a.m. Friday reporting 10 or more gunshots being fired at the home, located in the 100 West block of Lucy Avenue (1250 South). Witnesses told police they saw up to six suspects, all described as Polynesian males wearing dark hooded jackets, in front of the home at the same time as the gunfire.
The suspects were last seen speeding away from the scene in a white, two-door Chevrolet or Honda sedan and a black SUV, police said.
SLCPD Lt. Gary Trost said several rounds struck the home but neither a man or his wife living inside was hit. However, the man was taken to the hospital after complaining of chest pains, but he was released later Friday morning.
Police also reportedly found a propane tank in the front yard that the suspects may have unsuccessfully tried to throw through a window.
What motivated the attack was under investigation, but the case has reportedly been turned over to gang detectives.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call SLCPD at 801-799-3000.
