Utah State football: Aggies finish with Boise State in backloaded 2014 schedule
The Mountain West has released the 2014 conference football schedule, and if things go well for Utah State, the last game of the regular season could be a whopper.
The Aggies have a tough 13-game schedule with at least 10 games on the back end of their only bye. But if Utah State can repeat or build on last season's successes, it will head into the Nov. 29 season finale against chief division competitor Boise State.
The conference is embracing rivalries for the last weekend of the year, with such matchups as Colorado State-Air Force and UNLV-Nevada. The Aggies will be pitted against last season's Mountain Division runner-up Broncos, which should ensure a thrilling finish to the season as long as both teams hold true to recent form.
However, getting there will be a challenge.
The Aggies get their first bye in September, then don't rest again until December. Utah State is hopeful to reach the Mountain West championship again after going last year, meaning the Aggies could play 11 games without a break.
The back end of the schedule is loaded with tough places to play: The team visits Hawaii, Wyoming and Boise State in November. With two other games in Logan during that month, the Aggies will be finish out the season with cold weather conditions.
Utah State will be a weekend fixture: The team plays only one game on a Friday, against BYU, and the rest are currently scheduled for Saturdays. That could change when the Mountain West sits down with its television partners to hammer out the broadcast schedule. CBS Sports Network and ESPN could move games to Thursdays and Fridays.
