Man tried to abduct girl in Magna, police say

Unified Police are investigating an attempted child abduction in Magna on Thursday afternoon.

At 1:15 p.m. a 12-year-old girl was walking home from school near 3500 South and 8900 West in Magna, when a man driving a mini-van pulled up alongside her, according to a UPD news release.

The man called out to the victim and told her to come to his car. The girl thought it was someone who may know her family and started to walk towards the car.

Then the man got out, grabbed the girl’s arm and started to pull her to the car.

The girl screamed and the suspect let go of her arm. As the girl ran away, the man ran back to his vehicle and fled in an unknown direction.

The girl ran home and reported the incident to the police. Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian, 30-40 years old, 6-foot-1, 300 pounds with a goatee, red shirt, blue jeans, blue jeans, and a black baseball hat with flames on the side.

The suspect’s vehicle was described as a baby blue-colored older style mini-van with windows only on the front driver and passenger side doors.

Investigators are asking anyone with information as to the suspect’s identity or about the case to call the Unified Police Department at 385-468-9837.
