The all-male pop-rock band Jupiter Suit sprang from the Caleb Chapman Music high-school program in American Fork and originally performed under the name Lo-Fi Riot.

But this year, after two of the four members graduated from high school — and the award-winning Chapman program — the band went independent. The new name, Jupiter Suit, is a metaphor for the music.

"We hope we inspire people to look at life from a different perspective and see what's important and what's not," said lead vocalist Zach Marquez, an 18-year-old University of Utah student.

Jupiter Suit includes bassist and fellow U. student Evan Wharton, drummer Matt Wilson and lead guitarist Jaxon Garrick. Wilson and Garrick are students at Alta High School.

On Wednesday, Feb. 19, the band will put its beliefs to work at a benefit concert, along with other local musicians, at Provo's Velour Live Music Gallery. Proceeds from the "Playing for Change" event will help relief efforts in the Philippines.

"Music is in our blood and we all decided a long time ago this is what we want to do," said Marquez. "But what are we going to do with it? Use music as currency for our own egos? Or to benefit other people?"

Those questions led them to organize the benefit.

It's about "putting the attention on other places in the world and sharing the joy we are getting with other people," Marquez said. —
