West Valley City police Sunday were investigating a home invasion robbery in which the robbers punched their way into a home.

West Valley City police Lt. Dalan Taylor said one of the home's residents heard a knock on the front door of 4940 W. Hellas Drive (4660 South) between 4:30 and 5 a.m. Sunday, and when he answered it, he found three men standing there demanding he let them in.

Taylor said one of the men then punched the resident in the face and the trio forced their way into the home.

Once inside, they rounded up the other three roommates and under the threat of violence held them captive for nearly an hour while they stole mainly electronic devices.

The men then took a resident's car and fled.

The man who was punched in the face suffered minor injuries and declined medical attention, Taylor said. The other three were not injured.

Taylor said the four roommates said they did not know who broke into their home, but said police suspect the men might have had a connection to the home. Police Sunday were still searching for the robbers — described as Polynesian — and the stolen car, a 2010 blue Mazda 3 with Utah plates C207XM.

Anyone with information on the car or the robbers is asked to call police at 801-840-4000.
