Ski Lift of the Week • Snake Creek Express at Brighton Resort
Type • High-speed quad
Vertical rise • 1,040 feet
Number of runs • 15
Difficulty rating • Beginner to advanced
Why try it • Fun skiing through the woods
The ride • The terrain beneath Brighton's 10,315-foot Preston Peak is accessed by this high-speed quad, whose base is nestled in a mid-mountain meadow reachable from either the Great Western or Majestic lifts. There's something for everyone off Snake Creek, particularly for intermediates and improving beginners. A handful of trails that weave through the woods off the flanks of Pioneer run appeal to youngsters. Experts can get some thrills on steep slopes beneath and on both sides of the lift.
Runs to try
Sunshine • The pitch is a pleasant one for beginners, and the run is wide enough for sweeping turns, although the ridge run can be crowded.
Pioneer • Intermediates will like its extra pitch, good for going fast. And if making quick turns is your fancy, the trails through the woods are good for that.
Doyle's Dive • This is the place to go, along with Hard Coin and Sawbuck, on powder days for hitting openings between trees on steeper pitches.
