U.S. Speedskating Olympic Trials • Watching top athletes compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic short-track speedskating team for the 2014 Games in Sochi, Russia. More information, utaholympiclegacy.com.

U.S. Cross Country Championships • About 350 of the most promising cross country skiers from U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association clubs will compete at Soldier Hollow through Jan. 10. This weekend, races in classic start for the women’s 10K and men’s 15K are on Saturday; free sprint races for men and women are on Sunday. More information, www.uscrosscountrychamps2014.com/.

Will Fence for Food • Watch more than 60 fencers compete in this tournament that collects food and cash donations for Davis County food banks. More information, www.wasatchfencing.org.

Admission: Free, but food or cash donations for Davis County food banks are encouraged.

Utah FIRST LEGO League qualifier • Watch as children ages 9-14 compete in robot games and projects for a chance to move on to the First Lego League State Championships. More information, utfll.utah.edu/.
