Utah State center Jarred Shaw was charged Friday with second-degree felony distribution of a controlled substance.

Shaw, 23, leads the 9-2 Aggies in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots. He had been suspended indefinitely by USU coach Stew Morrill since Sunday, when Logan police responded to a call at a residence near the university and found marijuana.

Logan Assistant Police Chief Jeff Curtis says an underage girl was taken into custody and referred to juvenile court. Curtis says the amount of marijuana was “more than personal use.”

Shaw also is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a class B misdemeanor.

An initial appearance is scheduled for 9:30 Monday morning.

Utah State basketball spokesman Zach Fisher said the program will not comment on Shaw’s case.
