A 10-year-old Davis County boy died Friday in a snowmobile accident in Wasatch County.

The boy was driving a snowmobile with his father as a passenger about noon on the groomed trail along State Road 35 near Nobletts Creek, east of Woodland, said Eugene Swalberg, spokesman for the Utah State Parks Department. They were 3 or 4 miles from the trailhead when the snowmobile struck a "delineator post," the reflective metal markers used on the edges of roads.

The impact threw the boy and his father from the machine.

The boy died at the scene from blunt-force injuries, Swalberg said. His father was taken by private vehicle to a hospital. He was in fair condition as of 4 p.m.

Both snowmobilers were wearing helmets.

Swalberg did not know the victims' names or how the snowmobile crashed. Investigators believe speed was a factor.

The Tribune will report further information as it becomes available.
