3rd District Court has a new commissioner
Third District Presiding Judge Royal I. Hansen has announced the appointment of Kim M. Luhn as a new commissioner in the 3rd District Court effective Dec. 16. The 3rd District is composed of Salt Lake, Summit and Tooele counties.
Luhn was recommended by the 3rd District Court bench and approved by the Utah Judicial Council. Luhn replaces Commissioner Thomas Arnett, who retired in August.
Since 1987, Luhn has worked in private practice with an emphasis in family law. Luhn is a graduate of the S.J. Quinney Law School at the University of Utah and received a Bachelor of Science in education from Utah State University. Luhn is the recipient of the Scott M. Matheson award for outstanding contribution to law-related education and has been selected as one of Utah's Top Lawyers in Utah Business magazine.
Court commissioners are quasi-judicial officers, as provided by the Utah Code and the rules of the Utah Judicial Council. They assist the district court with domestic hearings and the juvenile court with delinquency and child welfare hearings.
