A fire that forced 11 families from their apartments in Brigham City is believed to have started in a mattress, but the official cause of the blaze continued to be under investigation Tuesday.
Brigham City police Lt. Dennis Vincent said no one was injured and those displaced by the flames Thursday night were being given shelter, food and clothing by the Red Cross and local Mormon church members.
Vincent said the fire, which directly affected eight units, caused an estimated $125,000-$150,000 in damage. Three other nearby units also were evacuated due to the loss of power overnight.
Fire crews rushed to the complex, at 58 N. Main Street, about 7:30 p.m. When crews arrived, flames were shooting through the roof and windows, Vincent said.
The fire spread to the attic and then to other units of the L-shaped building, Vincent said.
