The Unified Police Department, in partnership with Riverton city and the Salt Lake Valley Law Enforcement Service Area, will break ground Monday for a new precinct police station at 12810 S. Redwood Road (1700 West) in Riverton.

Funding for the project came from a bond obtained by Riverton in partnership with Unified Police Department (UPD) and Salt Lake Valley Law Enforcement Service Area (SLVLESA), according to a UPD press release.

The partnership enabled Riverton City to save costs with their bond while facilitating UPD/SLVLESA in providing a police station in Riverton City that is adjacent to City Hall where residents can easily access services, the press release states.

Additional cost savings will be realized by eliminating rent and related costs that provide no return on the investment.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Monday on the north side of the Riverton City Hall Complex.

Many SLVLESA and UPD Board members will be in attendance, as well as Salt Lake County Sheriff Sheriff James Winder.
