McGillis School students spent part of Friday raking leaves (and occasionally succumbing to the temptation to play in them) as part of an annual service project.

Brandishing rakes and bags, more the 360 students in kindergarten through eighth grade raked and helped with fall cleanup in Salt Lake City's Douglas neighborhood around their school, which is at 1300 East and 700 South.

The annual "Fall Leaf Hall" is part of the McGillis School's "Service Learning and Ethics in Action Days," which teaches students "to develop individual and social responsibility by integrating service learning into the academic environment," according to a news release.

Friday's project was the school's 10th annual leaf haul, the release said.
