Letter: Anti-abortion activists should worry about hungry children
On the cover of the 11/1/2013 issue of the Salt Lake Tribune, a photo depicts an anti-abortion activist carrying a sign stating "Pray to End Abortion" ("Court reinstates most of Texas' new abortion rules," Tribune, Nov. 1).
Above that image is an article entitled "Utah's poor brace for cuts in fed aid" ("Federal food stamp program rolled back to 2008 levels," Tribune, Nov. 1).
That article defines the effect of the recent cuts in food stamp benefits to the most needy in our society. According to this report, more than half the households that qualify for food stamps have children.
A better slogan for the woman carrying the anti-abortion placard would be "Pray to End Poverty." As the majority of the anti-abortion activists define themselves as Christian, it is odd they seem far more concerned about the rights of a fetus than a hungry child.
