Letter: SL airport should rethink poor gate assignments

I first went to work for the airlines at Salt Lake City when passenger stairs were pushed up to propeller planes. Last week when I flew into Salt Lake from St. George on my way to Denver I encountered a situation that is worse than anything I've seen in my travels around the world.

We parked a few minutes late at Gate 42 on the E concourse and I had less than 30 minutes to connect with the Denver flight on the same airline, which I was told was at a gate on the B concourse. That gate is nearly a mile away, and I was also told that ground transportation of any kind was no longer available. I walked as fast as I could but nearly missed my flight to Denver.

This situation is nearly impossible, and the airlines and airport authority need to do some serious rethinking about gate assignments in this sprawling and out-of-date terminal.
