A new grassroots organization is forming in Salt Lake City that brings chefs, cooks and local food lovers together to improve the dining scene and to do good in the community.

A launch party for the Salt Lake City Kitchen Collective is Sunday, Oct. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Rose Establishment, 235 S. 400 West, Salt Lake City.

Anyone interested in participating can attend — you don't have to be a chef or restaurant employee to qualify.

The open house will include bites from area restaurants and non-alcoholic drinks. (There's an after party at the Bar X)

Initially, the Kitchen Collective wants to "bring together cooks and chefs to talk about trends, techniques, sourcing of products and how to raise the bar in the Salt Lake City restaurant community."

But the group also hopes to participate in service projects and donate time and skills to worthy charities.
