Summer farmers markets to close, but winter options starting soon

While the summer market season comes to a close, the winter market season is just about to begin.

Today at 1 p.m. leaders from Salt Lake City, the state and the Downtown Alliance will announce plans for a new winter farmers market concept that will start in November.

Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker will attend the event at the Rio Grande Depot, along with Julie Fisher, Executive Director, Utah Department of Heritage and Arts, Kim Angeli, Director, Downtown Farmers Market and Alison Einerson, Manager Winter Market.

The plans will likely be different than last year, when the Downtown Alliance held several successful “pop-up” winter markets are various locations throughout the city.

If you need to stock up on produce before those winter markets begin, the Tuesday Harvest Market at Pioneer Park continues today and Oct. 22 from 4 p.m. to dusk.

And Oct. 19, is the final day for the Saturday Market at Pioneer Park. The farewell party includes a pumpkin festival and “Howl-O-ween” pet costume contest.
