Bountiful and Layton police were looking for clues and at least one suspect Tuesday following early morning armed robberies of gas station convenience stores.

A 911 call came in at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday from a Tesoro station at 2563 S. Main St. in Bountiful after a 6-foot white male in his 30s, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt that covered most of his face, held up the business.

The suspect did not display a firearm but told the clerk he had a handgun when he demanded and received cash. The man then left the store, said Bountiful police Lt. Dave Edwards.

A passing truck driver reported seeing the suspect fleeing the area on foot.

A suspect of a similar description also held up a Sinclair station at 1508 N. Cherry Lane in neighboring Layton just before 5 a.m., Davis County public safety dispatchers confirmed.

He, too, reportedly escaped with cash after indicating he had a firearm, said Layton police Lt. Shawn Horton.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported in either incident.

Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call Bountiful police at 801-296-6000 or Layton police at 801-336-3488.
