Prep boys' golf: Lone Peak, Orem lead state tourneys

Lone Peak clung to a three-stroke lead over Syracuse after the first day of the Class 5A state golf tournament Monday at Alpine Country Club.

Cameron Webb led the Knights with a 72, while Zane Loveland carded a 73 for Lone Peak.

Thomas Chandler led the Titans with a 73.

Viewmont sat in third, two shots behind Syracuse, and Brighton trailed the Vikings by a stroke.

West's Austin Banz had the low round of the day — a 69. Teammate Marshall Harris shot a 70 for sole possession of second place.

Orem grabbed the lead after Day 1 of the 4A state tournament at Ogden Golf and Country Club. Corey Carter's 70 led the Tigers (303), who enjoyed a six-shot lead over Bonneville (309). Maple Mountain sat third with a 311.

Carter shared the tournament lead with Maple Mountain's Kai Ruiz. Corner Canyon's Rhett Rasmussen was third with a 72.

Both tournaments conclude Tuesday. —
