Eight Utah breweries will be pouring craft beers — and hoping for gold, silver or bronze medals — during the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) which kicks off today in the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

The Utah delegation will be among 600 breweries serving more than 2,800 beers at the three-day event — considered the country's premier beer festival and competition.

Utah brewers attending GABF include: Desert Edge Brewery, Epic Brewing Co. Redrock Brewing, Squatters, Uinta and Utah Brewers Co-op, all in Salt Lake City; as well as Wasatch in Park City and Hoppers in Midvale.

During the festival Epic Brewing also will celebrate the opening of its new Denver taproom by hosting a Firkin Fiasco featuring fifty small-casks of uniquely flavored beers. Some of the firkins that will be on tap include the Imperial Red Ale with cocoa nibs, Utah Sage Saison with cracked black pepper corns, Spiral Jetty with Chipotle Peppers, and Imperial IPA with toasted coconut flakes.
