Two men have been arrested after allegedly being found with a truckload of stolen materials and equipment from eastern Utah's Gilsonite Mine.

Uintah County Sheriff Jeff Merrell said on Monday that the men, a 40-year-old from Craig, Colo., and a 25-year-old from Ogden, were booked into the county jail on suspicion of theft, burglary and illegal drug possession charges.

The two were arrested by deputies responding to a 911 call reporting a theft in progress at the American Gilsonite Co. in Bonanza early the morning of Oct. 3. Deputies spotted the truck near the mine site moments later and pulled it over.

On the truck were industrial machinery and items from the mine site valued at $500,000, Merrill said.

An unspecified amount of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia also was seized, the sheriff said.
