State colleges: Utah women's soccer team beats Utah State 3-0
The Utah women's soccer team scored three second-half goals to defeat Utah State 3-0 on Friday night.
Taylor Slattery knocked in a header off Ashton Hall's corner kick in the 59th minute to open the scoring. Kaycee Buckley and Katie Taylor added goals for the host Utes (4-1-3), who won their 10th straight nonconference home game.
Goalkeeper Lindsey Luke made two saves to earn the shutout.
Utah Valley 2, Cal State Bakersfield 0 • In Orem, Kali Stubbs scored in the first half, and McKell Salmon scored in the second half as the Wolverines beat the Roadrunners. Goalkeeper Lauren Sack made six saves to earn the save as UVU won its first-ever game in the Western Athletic Conference.
Southern Utah1, UC Riverside 0 (OT) • In Cedar City, Shelby Green scored her first career goal in overtime to lift the Thunderbirds (3-5-0) to the win. Green scored on a header in the 97th minute off a cross from Alyssa Gomez. Goalkeeper Elyssa Hashimoto made five saves to earn her first career shutout.
BYU 3, San Diego 0 • In Provo, Alexa Gray notched 10 kills, and Kimberli Boswell had nine kills and nine blocks as the Cougars prevailed, 25-20, 25-21, 25-21, over No. 2-ranked San Diego.
Utah Valley 3, UC Riverside 0 • In USAF, Colo., Lauren Stringham had 10 kills to lead UVU to the victory in their opening match at the Air Force Invitational, 25-23, 25-17, 25-23.
BYU's Mayci Jones and Meghan Sheehan-Dizon won the doubles title at the BYU Invitational, beating fellow Cougars Desiree Tran and Nicolette Tran 8-6 in the final.
• In Williamsburg, Va., four Utah players won matches at the Tribe Invitational: Tereza Bekerova defeated Jeljte Loomans of William & Mary 6-2, 6-3; Callie Craig beat Leeza Nemchinov of William & Mary 6-3, 6-2; Luisa Garstner Da Rosa beat Zita Engbroks of Oklahoma, 6-1, 6-2; and Sarah Richter beat Sydney Smith of William & Mary, 6-3, 6-4.
Westminster 4, Johnson & Wales 0 • Anthony Alcox scored in the 13th minute to break Westminster's 200-minute scoring drought, and the host Griffins (4-4) got two goals from Henry Dankwa in the win.
