DVD review: Downey's wit keeps 'Iron Man 3' solid

DVD • What powers "Iron Man 3," the mega-successful third installment of Marvel's superhero franchise, isn't a palladium reactor in Tony Stark's chest, but the heart that Robert Downey Jr. brings to the role.

This time, the demons of Stark's past come home to roost, as the terrorist Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) and a rival industrialist (Guy Pearce) attack Stark and his lady love, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow).

Director/co-writer Shane Black, who worked with Downey on "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang," lets Downey's witty asides and simmering anger carry the story smartly — until the inevitable fireworks show of special effects takes over. —
