Salt Lake City police were searching for a pair of armed suspects who barged into a home Thursday morning and demanded money and drugs.

The men broke into the ground-level apartment near 1720 W. 1300 North about 4 a.m. by kicking in a glass patio door, according to Salt Lake City Detective Dennis McGowan. They demanded money and drugs, threatened the couple living in the apartment then "tore it apart trying to find whatever it was they were looking for," McGowan said.

The men left after realizing they had upset three small children, ranging in age from 5 to 10 years old. McGowan said the couple and the children were all traumatized by the incident.

Police on Thursday morning did not know if the suspects chose to hit the apartment because they had a connection there, because it was a mistake or because it was chosen at random.

The case has been referred to gang detectives.

McGowan described both suspects as Hispanic men in their 20s. One man wore a red Utah Utes sweatshirt and a red bandana. The other wore a white bandana and a black shirt or sweatshirt.

Police ask anyone with information to contact investigators at 801-799-3000.
