The Utah Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle near St. George on Friday and arrested a 47-year-old man wanted in connection with a child abduction in Yuma, Az.
The missing child, a 5-month-old baby girl, was found safe inside the man’s pickup truck, the UHP reported.
The girl was taken into state custody until her family can arrive in Utah.
Earlier Friday, UHP troopers learned of an attempt-to-locate on a green Dodge pickup with Arizona tags, and two troopers were set up at the Utah-Arizona state line.
Soon after, a white Dodge truck passed by that had obviously just been painted by hand, but green could be seen underneath and on the trim, the UHP reported.
The plates on the vehicle matched the suspect’s and both officers followed the vehicle, setting up other officers in the area for a possible pursuit or other action.
The vehicle exited at Brigham Road, just south of St. George, and when the suspect saw that officers were following he stopped on his own and he was taken into custody without incident, the UHP reported.
The man was booked into the Washington County jail, and Yuma Police were contacted.
