Weber State basketball: Wheelwright leaves program
Weber State will have to play basketball this season without one of its projected starting guards.
Gelaun Wheelwright has left the program, Wildcats coach Randy Rahe announced Wednesday afternoon, an abrupt departure just four weeks from the start of practice.
"It was a mutual decision between me and Gelaun," Rahe said. "We both decided it was time for him to have a change of environment and move on to a different situation. We appreciate all Gelaun has done for us, and we wish him nothing but the best in his future in whatever he decides to do. We will help along the way in any way we can."
Wheelwright would've entered this season as a full-time starter for the first time as a junior. As a freshman, he was the first guard off the bench on the Damian Lillard-led team that advanced to the Big Sky title game.
Wheelwright appeared in 63 games and averaged 6.0 and 1.4 assists per game in two seasons.
