• Elmore Leonard, the legendary author of crime and Western novels, has died at the age of 87. Leonard's novels included “Get Shorty,” “Hombre” and “Out of Sight” (all of which became movies), and other works inspired the movies “3:10 to Yuma” and “Jackie Brown,” and the TV series “Justified.” [IndieWire]

• Comedian/actor Dick Van Dyke, 87, was rescued from a burning car in southern California on Monday. He was uninjured. [Variety]
