Daniel Smith | Universal Pictures "Kick-Ass 2" • Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) rides into action in this sequel to the do-it-yourself superhero franchise. (Opens August 16.)

At the Utah-based Megaplex Theatres chain, the movie’s titles are sanitized for your protection.

Opening on Friday is “Kick-Ass 2,” the second installment in the series based on a comic book about real-life people donning superhero costumes to fight crime in New York.

But on Megaplex’s website, it’s not called “Kick-Ass 2,” but “Kick A 2.”

For the record, the major national theater companies that do business in Utah, namely the Cinemark and Carmike chains, left the movie’s title intact.

Megaplex’s truncation of the title drew derision on Twitter from The Cricket’s colleague at Salt Lake City Weekly, Scott Renshaw: “If you really cared about offensiveness, @megaplextheatre, you’d worry less about title of KICK-ASS 2 and more about what’s in it.”
