Backcountry Bed 800 sleeping bag from Sierra DesignsSierra Designs is undergoing a revamp of its line and gets off to a strong start with the Backcountry Bed 800. This sleeping bag has all the features typical of the Sierra Designs lines, but is made to feel more like sleeping at home. The bag is zipperless with entry via an oval-shaped opening on the top. Instead of zipping up to stay warm, sleepers pull up an oversized comforter attached to the bag. The comforter can be tucked into the bag for colder nights or left on top or pushed away entirely for warmer nights. The Backcountry Bed feels roomy and cozy, not confined and claustrophobic like other bags can be. The bag will be available Spring 2014 in a 2-season ($349) and a 3-season ($399) with regular, long and women's specific models. http://www.sierradesigns.com/

The Salt Lake Tribune is providing a look at some of the gear shown at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market last week at the Salt Palace Convention Center. Because the show is closed to the public, we thought we would share a peak with the public about gear coming to the outdoors world. Items will be featured on the Tribune's Hiking Utah and Fishing Utah blogs. An Outdoor Retailer package will also run in the Tribune. — Brett Prettyman
