Midway • Defending champion Kelsey Chugg won the last two holes to earn a 1-up victory over Haley Dunn in Wednesday's quarterfinals of the Women's State Amateur at Wasatch Mountain State Park.

Chugg birdied the par-5 No. 17 on the Lake Course, then parred the par-4 No. 18. She advanced to a semifinal match against Tara Green, a 1-up winner over Madi Rooker.

In the other bracket, qualifying co-medalist Lea Garner defeated Annette Gaiotti 5 and 4. Garner also needed only 14 holes to win her first-round match against Carly Oldroyd.

Sirene Blair, the other co-medalist, had to go 19 holes to outlast Brooke Whittaker in the quarterfinals. She birdied the par-5 No. 1.

The semifinals will be contested Thursday morning, with the 18-hole final match in the afternoon.

Chugg, who recently completed her Weber State golf career, has played against Montana's Green in the Big Sky Conference. Garner is a BYU golfer and Blair will be a San Diego State freshman. They've competed in the Utah Junior Golf Association and other women's events.
