• Multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter Alex Goot performs at In the Venue, 219 S. 600 West, Salt Lake City. Opening acts: Sam Tsui, Kurt Schneider. Show starts at 6. Tickets are $16, at Smith’s Tix.

• Indie emo band The Dangerous Summer performs at The Salt Haus, 735 S. 400 West, Salt Lake City. Opening acts: Tommy and the High Pilots, Rare Monk, Breaking Laces. Show starts at 6. Tickets are $10, at Smith’s Tix.

• A women’s-only screening of the new movie “Austenland” happens at the Broadway Centre Cinemas, 111 E. 300 South, Salt Lake City. Director Jerusha Hess and author Shannon Hale, both Utahns, will take part in a post-screening Q-and-A session moderated by X96’s Gina Barberi. (Hale will also sign books after the show.) Show starts at 6:30. Free, but space is limited, so it’s first come, first served.

• “Red-dirt” metal band Texas Hippie Coalition performs at Bar Deluxe, 666 S. State St., Salt Lake City. Opening acts: Eve to Adam, Truce in Blood, Sugar Bone. Show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12, at Smith’s Tix or 24Tix.
