Dana Wilson hit the nail on the head when he indicated that many people are unaware of the Older Americans Act itself, but often see its benefits locally ("Wilson: Improve care for seniors", Tribune, July 20). As Utah's largest Area Agency on Aging, Salt Lake County Aging Services provides a full spectrum of services for seniors, their families and caregivers.

Because we offer resources that often aren't sought out until after an individual or family member is in crisis mode, a majority of individuals don't know we exist. It's unfortunate because so much of the stress and confusion related to the issues of elder care can be avoided by planning ahead.

Part of that planning process should encompass preparing for the unknown. Should you or a loved one need help maintaining your independence later in life, knowing which services are available, who provides them and how to access them can be of tremendous value to you and your family.

Salt Lake County seniors can have all their questions answered by simply calling 385.468.3200 or logging on atwww.aging.slco.org. Salt Lake County Aging Services is ready to assist you when you need us!
