Sandy Mayor Tom Dolan was the state's highest-paid city mayor in the 2012 fiscal year.

Data supplied by cities to the state transparency website show that Dolan was paid $128,824, putting him at the top of the list. He also tops the list for highest gross compensation, when his $33,185 benefit package is added in.

To put that in perspective, Gov. Gary Herbert was paid $109,929, with $39,581 in benefits.

The 2012 fiscal year, which was the most recent information available, ended June 30, 2012.

Gross compensation is the combination of salary paid to an employee, and benefit payments made on the employee's behalf.

Ogden Mayor Matthew Godfrey was second in terms of salary, at $128,768 salary but his $154,142 gross compensation was third behind Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker's $157,562.34.

In terms of salary alone, Becker was third, with $122,237.70., followed by Logan Mayor J. Randy Watts, $98,644.66, and Provo Mayor John Curtis, $96,864.51.

Curtis' total compensation package of $136,089.53 was the fourth highest among the mayors.

At the bottom of the top 10 was Grantsville Mayor Brent K. Marshall, with $60,561 in salary and $86,312 in total compensation.

The data were compiled by UtahsRight.com for a weekly series in The Salt Lake Tribune highlighting information gleaned from public databases.

UtahsRight.com, the data website for The Salt Lake Tribune, conducts an ongoing statewide quest for district court information and other public information, including salaries of public employees and restaurant inspections, using public records requests made under the state's Government Records Access and Management Act, commonly known as GRAMA.
