South Salt Lake police are looking for the people who robbed a South Salt Lake clothing store on Thursday afternoon.

The 50-year-old owner of X Zone Clothing, at 3844 S. 300 East, was alone in her store when a male and female came inside, said police spokesman Gary Keller.

The male pulled out a small black handgun and got behind the counter, Keller said. The owner tried to climb over the counter and get away, but the male held her at bay, at gunpoint, as he tried to rip the register off the counter, Keller said.

The owner opened the cash drawer for him and then tried again to run — only to have the female accomplice, who was waiting by the door, to grab her by the hair and stop her, Keller said.

After the male grabbed an undetermined amount of money from the drawer, both suspects fled to a white four-door sedan, Keller said. A driver and passenger were already in the car, he added.

The car, which police have a partial description of the license plate, was last seen going west on 3900 South.

"No shots were fired. The [owner] was roughed up a little bit but she was otherwise unharmed," Keller said.

The owner told police that the two suspects who came in the store were wearing dark baseball caps and what might have been dread lock wigs. She also told police that the male was wearing a black shirt, black shorts and white shoes.

As of Thursday afternoon, investigators were talking to neighboring businesses who may have witnessed what happened, as well as looking into possible surveillance video of the incident for clues, Keller said.
