Sports briefs: Rosberg wins British Grand Prix
Auto Racing • Nico Rosberg won the British Grand Prix on Sunday in Silverstone, England, after four drivers, including early leader Lewis Hamilton, had to deal with exploding tires and after three-time champion Sebastian Vettel quit with 10 laps remaining because of mechanical problems.
With Vettel's Red Bull teammate Mark Webber closing fast, Rosberg managed to win his second race of the year and third of his career by 0.7 seconds in a nail-biting finish .
Soon after celebrating, Rosberg risked seeing his victory slip away when he was referred to the stewards for not slowing down for yellow flags in turns 3 and 5.
The stewards ruled that Rosberg "did not make a significant reduction in speed" but would only receive a reprimand, or warning. After three reprimands during a season, drivers are given a 10-place grid penalty. This was Rosberg's first.
"Fantastic, it's very special," said Rosberg, who also won in Monaco and in China last year. "Our team has done such a fantastic job. We have such momentum at the moment, progressing all the time."
Knicks trying to trade for Bargnani
NBA • The Knicks and Toronto Raptors are discussing a trade to bring former No. 1 pick Andrea Bargnani to New York.
The Knicks' push to land the forward from Italy was put on hold Sunday when a deal was not completed, but a person with knowledge of the discussions says the talks will continue.
The New York Times reported Sunday that the teams had agreed to a deal, with the Knicks sending Steve Novak, former Raptors center Marcus Camby and a future No. 1 pick to Toronto. But the deal was not approved for salary reasons and the teams will keep looking for ways to make it work.
Bargnani was the top pick of the 2006 draft.
• Grizzlies guard Jerryd Bayless has exercised his player option and will return to Memphis next season.
Terms of the deal weren't released by the team. ESPN.com, the first to report Bayless' decision, said the player option would pay him $3.1 million.
• The Houston Rockets have waived guard/forward Carlos Delfino and point guard Aaron Brooks.
