BYU's Haws makes 12-member USA team for World University Games
For the first time since Devin Durrant in 1983, a member of the BYU men's basketball team will represent the United States of America in an international basketball competition.
Rising junior Tyler Haws was selected on Saturday morning to the 12-member Team USA club that will compete in the World University Games next month in Kazan, Russia.
Haws survived the final cut as coaches trimmed the roster from 16 players to 12 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Haws and his 11 new teammates will continue to train in the Springs through Sunday, and will depart for Russia on Tuesday.
Team USA will practice on July 3-6 in Kazan and will scrimmage on July 4 against the Russian club team UNICS and against the Russian World University Games team on July 5.
World University Games play begins on July 7. Team USA is in Group C, which includes Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates.
The U.S. opens against UAE on the 7th.
