A 2-year -old boy suffered life-threatening injuries when his stroller was struck by a driver in a hit-and-run collision Monday night.

The boy’s mother was pushing his stroller across the street near 4005 S. 5600 West about 9:45 p.m., apparently after leaving a nearby Smith’s grocery store, said West Valley City police Lt. Matt Elson. A northbound car struck the stroller, ejecting the toddler, Elson said. The toddler landed on the road; the driver did not stop.

The toddler, who lives nearby, suffered critical injuries and was flown to Primary Children’s Medical Center.

The vehicle was described as a grey, silver or white sports car with a fin on its back, Elson said. Anyone with information may call police at 801-840-4000.

Investigators believe the mother had exited the Smith’s parking lot on the west side of the street and was crossing the street eastbound, Elson said. She apparently made it across the southbound lanes before the stroller was hit. She was not crossing in a crosswalk, he said.
