College baseball: Oregon State beats Kansas State for trip to CWS

Corvallis, Ore. • Danny Hayes hit a two-run home run and Oregon State advanced to the College World Series with a 4-3 victory over Kansas State on Monday night in the finale of the Corvallis super regional.

Ben Wetzler (9-1) struck out five, walked five and allowed three earned runs over 72⁄3 innings, and opening-game starter Matt Boyd held off the Wildcats (45-19) to earn his first save of the season and send the Beavers to Omaha for the first time since 2007, when Oregon State won its second consecutive national title.

Mississippi State 6, Virginia 5 • In Charlottesville, Va., Adam Frazier had hits and two RBIs, Wes Rea hit a two-run home run and Mississippi State clinched a spot in the CWS by winning the completion of a suspended game 6-5. The Bulldogs (48-18) needed six outs to complete the sweep, and used reliever Jonathan Holder to get them.

Game postponed • Bad weather in Chapel Hill, N.C., forced the postponement of Monday night's final game in the South Carolina-North Carolina super regional series until Tuesday afternoon.
