An official offer has gone out to Kyle Kuzma - a 6-foot-8 small forward from Michigan - The Tribune has learned.
Kuzma is known on the AAU circuit as a shooter. He's a three-star prospect with official offers from Texas A&M, Penn State and Rhode Island, along with Utah.
He has additional interest from Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota and Temple. He is a member of the class of 2014.
Kuzma was born in Flint Michigan - a place where Michigan State does much of its recruiting. He plays his high school basketball in Philadelphia at Rise Academy. In a recent interview he said he patterns his game after Klay Thompson, who plays for the Golden State Warriors. Ironic, because video of him reminds this blog of a Klay Thompson type.
Kuzma will be in Salt Lake City on Friday and Saturday as one of the participants in Utah's elite camp. There will be 45 high school players in all at the Huntsman Center, with some of the more desired recruiting targets attending.
Utah players who are expected to be in attendance include:
Jariesse Blackmon - a 6-6 power forward out of Layton
Ryan Andrus - a 6-9 power forward from American Fork
Zac Seljaas - a 6-7 shooting guard from Bountiful
Noah Tiogia - a 6-5 combination guard from Hunter High
Malek Harwell - a 6-4 shooting guard out of Pocatello Idaho
Braxton Huggins - a 6-3 shooting guard out of California
Two of Utah's priority recruits are Brekkott Chapman - a national top-40 power forward out of Roy, and Makol Mawien a 6-9 big man out of Granger.
They won't be in attendance, because they will be at the Under Armour All-star camp for the weekend. Chapman has an offer from Utah, as well as most of the schools out west. Mawien is fast becoming a priority recruit for the Utes.
The elite camp will take place on Friday and Saturday.
