Apple is planning to open a third retail store in Utah, according to its corporate website.
The job listings for the electronics giant state only that it is hiring for a new location in Salt Lake City. But the widely read Apple news blog, Apple Insider, says the site will be the Station Park shopping center in Farmington.
Calls to Station Park’s representatives were not returned Tuesday. A leasing agent for the center would not confirm or deny it is getting the store.
When the store debuts — no opening date is listed — it will be the third Apple store in Utah after openings in the past several years in downtown Salt Lake City and Fashion Place Mall in Murray. The downtown store originally was at The Gateway mall across from EnergySolutions Arena but terminated its lease early to move to City Creek Center late last year.
Apple stores generated an average of $6,050 in sales per square foot last year, more than any other retailer in America, including Tiffany and Co., according to RetailSales, which monitors sales of stores.
The Apple Store sells the company’s popular iPhone, as well as its lineup of iPod music players, Macbook laptop computers and iPad tablets.
Microsoft has tried to replicate the success of Apple’s retail stores by opening up a chain of outlets that sell computers and the new Microsoft Surface tablet. Utah’s first Microsoft store opened last spring at City Creek Center.
