An elderly Utah man was killed early Monday morning when his car crossed over the center line and crashed into a concrete culvert on U.S. 287 in Wyoming.
Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. Stephen Townsend said that 73-year-old Marcus Archuletta, of Taylorsville, was dead at the scene of the 4:15 a.m. crash 17 miles north of Rawlins. Archuletta did not appear to have been wearing a seat belt, WHP said.
A passenger, 60-year-old Carolyn Graves, of Kearns, was wearing a seat belt. She was in serious condition at Memorial Hospital of Carbon County in Rawlins.
Townsend said Archuletta was driving southbound when his 1997 Ford Taurus drifted over the center line, crossed into the northbound lane and then caromed off the highway’s left side before striking the culvert and coming to a halt.
What caused Archuletta to drive off the roadway remained under investigation.
