The Stansbury Stallions walloped a previously 22-0 team then bounced the five-time defending Class 3A state champions in a span of nine hours.

Quite the day.

The Stallions punched their ticket to the 3A state championship Saturday in St. George by rolling past Snow Canyon 16-0 in the first game of Friday's semifinals, a game in which coach Bridget Clinton said her girls just couldn't miss.

"Everybody through the whole lineup hit the ball hard," she said. "Every single one — 1 through 9."

Stansbury moved past the Warriors after four innings due to the state's 10-run rule.

Next up was the Bear River Bears, a program synonymous with owning 3A softball.

But senior catcher Jocelyn Kaufmann had other ideas. She hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to pace her Stansbury squad into the title game and past Bear River 6-2.

"We just always play the game we play every game, one pitch at a time," Clinton said. "They play hard for each other."

Now the Stallions (28-2) await the winner of the losers bracket semifinal between Bear River and Spanish Fork for Saturday's championship game, which is set for noon in St. George.

"We've prepared for this all season long," Clinton said. "It's just how they play. They'll be ready to go." —
