Civics Central: Salt Lake County discusses Kennecott slide, several cities adopt budgets

Here's your weekly roundup of what local city councils, school boards and other government entities are tackling during regularly scheduled meetings. Government agencies have until 24 hours before a meeting to post their agendas, so check back as this schedule will be updated. All meetings are open to the public, and citizens are welcome to voice their opinions during designated times. If you do wish to speak at a particular meeting, you may need to sign up in advance.

American Fork City Council • Will adopt a tentative budget, consider property annexations, a beer license for Sunstore LLC, and amendments to development code. Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., 31 N. Church St., American Fork. View the American Fork agenda.

Bountiful City Council • Will consider zoning changes from commercial to multi-family residential and adopt tentative 2013-14 budget on Tuesday, May 14, 7 p.m., 790 S. 100 East, Bountiful. View the Bountiful agenda.

Clinton City Council • Will vote on a tentative budget and consider rezoning property on Tuesday, May 14, 7 p.m., 2267 N. 1500 West, Clinton. View the Clinton agenda.

Davis County Commission • Will consider budget adjustments and a property tax register; Tuesday, May 14, 10 a.m., Davis County Administrative Office Building, 61 S. Main St., Farmington. View the Davis County agenda.

Farmington Board of Adjustment • Will hold a public hearing on Destination Homes' request for a variance to the side yard setback requirements in the AE zone from 10 feet to 5 feet to provide enough space to build homes on properties at 661 N. 1725 West and 664 N. 1725 West due to the large Central Davis Sewer District easement on the north side of the properties; Wednesday, May 15, 7 p.m., 160 S. Farmington Planning Commission • Will hold a public hearing to consider a zone change on approximately 6.5 acres at 500 S. 200 West, along the Frontage Road, from AE (Agricultural Estates) to R (Residential) (Z-2-13); Thursday, May 16, 7 p.m., 160 S. Main, Farmington.

Holladay • Will consider creating a municipal ethics commission and consider honoring Salt Lake County Councilwoman Jani Iwamoto at 6 p.m. 4580 S. 2300 East, Holladay. View the Holladay agenda.

Layton City Council • Will hold a public hearing on rezoning low-density land to high-density land on Gentile Street. Thursday, May 16, 7 p.m., 437 N. Wasatch Drive, Layton. View the Layton agenda.

Lehi City Council • Will give Eagle Scout awards, vote on zone changes for a Lehi property and annexations of property; Tuesday, May 14, 7 p.m., 153 N. 100 East, Lehi. View the Lehi agenda.

Midvale • Will review administrative services budget, discuss rules of council procedure and discuss proposed amendments to the Midvale City Policies and Procedures Manual Tuesday, May 14, 6:30 p.m., 655 West Center Street, Midvale. View the Midvale agenda.

Murray • Will discuss medical and dental coverage for council members on Tuesday, May 14, at 4:30 p.m. at 5025 S. State Street, Room 107, Murray. View the Murray agenda.

Orem City Council •Will consider the rezoning of several parts of Orem, define the powers of animal control, adopt a tentative budget. Tuesday, 6 p.m., 56 N. State St., Orem. View the Orem agenda.

Provo Municipal Council • Will review and workshop budget items and expenditures. Tuesday, 12 p.m., Provo City Center, 351 West Center Street, Provo.

Taylorsville City Council • Will discuss budget issues, West Point Shopping Center land development, and release a calendar of upcoming events. Wednesday, May 15, 6:30 p.m., 2600 W. Taylorsville Blvd. (5325 South), Taylorsville. View the Taylorsville agenda.
