State colleges: BYU rallies to crush Utah Valley in baseball
Orem • Bret Lopez hit two home runs and Jaycob Brugman also homered as BYU scored six runs in the sixth inning en route to a 15-7 win over Utah Valley in college baseball Tuesday.
Lopez went 4 for 5 with four RBIs, while Brugman had four hits and knocked in four runs to increase his season RBI total to 50.
The Cougars are 22-17.
Riley White had two RBIs and Jordy Hart was 3 for 5 with an RBI for the Wolverines (18-22), who had their four-game win streak snapped.
BYU 8-8, Southern Utah 0-0 • In Provo, the Cougars swept the Thunderbirds for their 11th win in 12 games.
In Game 1, Coco Taualii went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and Hannah Howell allowed four hits in 52â3 innings.
In Game 2, Tori Almond allowed three hits in four innings, Megan Arnold had three RBIs and two runs, and Mylee Davis went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI for the Cougars (28-23).
Kylee Wolf had three of SUU's (16-32) five hits in Game 2.
Utah Valley 7-3, Weber State 1-2 • In Orem, the Wolverines beat the Wildcats 7-1 and 3-2 in eight innings to extend their winning streak to seven games.
In Game 1, Tiffany Mills allowed one run and two hits while striking out six, and Amanda Robinson was 2 for 4 with a home run for the Wolverines (33-17).
In Game 2, Josi Summers struck out 13 in a complete-game victory, allowing five hits and one earned run.
Brooke Silva was 2 for 4 with a double and Desiree Mejia hit a home run for the Wildcats (8-37).
Utah State's Tanner Higham shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for fourth place after two rounds at the Western Athletic Conference championships in Henderson, Nev.
With one round remaining, the Aggies are tied for fourth at 604 (plus-28). New Mexico State leads at 584 (plus-8), followed by UT Arlington and San Jose State, both of which are at 601 (plus-25).
