Attention deficit

Why would The Salt Lake Tribune reprint the misleading Philadelphia Inquirer editorial on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder ("Hyper-diagnosing hyperactivity," Opinion, April 16)?

First, it stated that ADHD diagnosis is based on observation only. Wrong! There are well-documented psychological tests to verify this problem. In fact, the adult version of the Wender test originated at the University of Utah.

Second, it has been proven over and over that, later in life, kids treated with medication had a much lower incidence of substance abuse, prison incarceration or suicide than untreated children.

The next time you reprint such malarkey, have a professional proofread it.
