One Sweet Slice has opened a second store at 9305 S. Village Shop Dr., in Sandy. Besides custom cakes and cupcakes, the shop sells cake pops, French macarons, lemon bars and brownies.

Co-owner and designer Janell Brown won a 2012 episode of “Cupcake Wars” on the Food Network. Her team’s winning design was based on Star Wars.

The 8-year-old company has its home store in South Jordan. It’s most unusual offering may be the cow cake it made for a Texas rancher at Sundance, said president Trent Brown, Janell’s husband.

The most popular cupcake flavors include coconut key lime (with a coconut cream cheese frosting and pocket of lime curd), peanut-butter swirl and carmel.

The family business started as Janell’s hobby — she learned to decorate after taking classes at Roberts Crafts - but turned into a job after Trent lost his sales job in 2010 as part of the Great Recession.

The couple had hoped to open a second shop, and their plans were accelerated after they won the TV show contest.
